I recently purchased a Scottish armpit dagger from Joe Seabolt of Cedar Ridge Forge. The hilt is made from an elk tine, and has a hand-filed bolster. The blade is 6" long and has traditional file decoration on one side of the blade and a fuller on the other. The tang passes through the entire length of the grip and is peened to an iron washer at the pommel.
The blade is very nicely done with a noticeable distal taper. It is flat filed on the sides so that the blade is triangular in shape looking at it from the side, the top and the point. I was very please with the quality of this sgian, and plan on placing an order with him for a pipe tomahawk in the near future.
Yet another nice new acquisition for you, Chris. Congratulations.

Ditto, to what Steve wrote !
Nice piece, Congrats, Mac
Chris, I don't know how it is that you manage to find the craftsmen that you do, but you seem to always land on some excellent pieces along the way.
is the bloster integral to the blade or is it a separate piece?

Nathan,
Thanks for your kind remarks about the pieces I've come across. I have to admit, I do feel blessed to have come across this knife while searching the net for something completely different.
To answer your question about the bolster, it is not integral. It is hand filed, though.
The belt knife I use for reenacting is from Kyle Willyard of Old Dominion Forge. It has an integral bolster, and is a really nicely done piece. Kyle makes some of the nicest knives I've ever seen. When I get some time, I'll post pics of that piece as well.
Chris
