Here is a beautiful sword recently sold on ebay for $1,250. The seller described it as a late 18th or early 19th C shamshir. It is 38" over all, with a 32.5" blade. The cross and scabbard fittings still show traces of silver inlay. The grip is horn, with metal decorations.

I love the lines and proportions on this sword, but I find the fullers particularly interesting. Also, the raised metal rivets or brads look like they may be more comfortably placed than those on some reproductions I handled.

Yes, it looks like the studs on the hilt would fit quite comfortably between the fingers.

And the fullers really are interesting. It begins with two broad ones at the forte, then the back fuller is abruptly divided into two narrow ones that fade out one right before the false edge and the other near the point... Would there be any functional reason for this design, or is purely a matter of aesthetics?

A very beautiful sword in any case.

I'm curious, where does the false edge on that start?
