I posted this over on swordforum as well as making an inital post here when I found this at an antique shop, but I have finally purchased it and I thought I would share some photos.
It appeared to be an old barn find saber due to the condition, and the dealer had it labelled as a "civil war era sword." Which I knew wasn't true. I am guessing War of 1812 era, but its origin is unclear to me. With all the research I have been doing I have yet to identify it.
The blade is nearly identical to the British 1796 as well as the "reverse P" stirrup except this is all made of steel. The languets have thrown me off since I cant seem to find many examples with this style. The grip was once covered in wire wrapped leather, but only the wood remains (I know this from a small fragment left on the wood).
As always, any help is greatly appreciated!
Mike
