I have a piped-back 1827 pattern British naval officer's sword (with the Honourable East India Company crest on the hilt) which was once the property of Captain John Croft Hawkins, Acting Superintendent and Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Navy who is my 2nd great uncle.
The hilt has but a single hole, but I think there was originally a hook for the sword knot near where the folding part of the guard is.
Can anyone tell me what sort of sword knot it should have and how it should be fitted? The 'modern' ones are definately not right.
Many thanks in advance.
