Hello everyone,

I have an early rondel dagger which is nice and pretty simple. It has a plain wooden grip and plain steel rondels. I think it's supposed to be dated to the early part of the 14th. C., so as early as we can reliably date the rondel.

Anyway, I am considering having a new sheath made for it IF there is enough data to inform an upgrade from what I have.

I currently have a non-wood core sheath with steel throat (with a ring) and chape.

I am wondering if a wood core sheath would be more accurate. I am also wondering of the appropriateness of the cup to fit over the rondel. Were these cups later developments? Do we even know this? Do we have any information on early rondel dagger sheaths? At the most basic level would they have featured wooden cores or can a non-wooden core still be seen as historically accurate?

Hope that's clear- I would just keep what I have unless there is evidence that an upgrade would better fit with the piece as a whole.
