Group I, including Types X-XIV, consists of swords designed primarily to oppose mail. They typically feature wide, flat blades with lenticular cross-sections optimized for heavy-duty cutting. |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding was the only ways to get through mail was either a dedicated piercing weapon popping open a link as it is thrust through, or serious blunt force. So, wouldn't Oakeshott Group I be dedicated to dealing with textile armor, and not ring mail?
