I'm making some personal research about the topic of historical wasters. I search for examples of survived period pieces, miniatures and citations, to better understand how and how much they were used.
I start with a citation by Manciolino, Opera Nova:
My translation:
"[…] stop then the ignorant people from saying what they don't know, so that he who wound with a smussed iron, even better will wound with an edge, and it will be not honest, that the rough disciples will be taught with the harming weapons, and even with tools that in the hitting don't inflict pain, so that they learn to defend themselves"

Good luck with your research, Gabriele. ;)
I suppose you've checked the sister gallery to that one? http://hroarr.com/articles-reviews/galleries/...ed-schilt/
