Antique percussion pistol, please help identify
First of all thanks,
This is something I remember my father always having. I think it may have been passed down from an ancestor.
Our folks settled in Pennsylvania.
The only marking I can find is the number 58 under the grip on the left side.

A very nice honest little civilian about town pocket pistol. Extremely common but its a nice example, lovely patina. I expect the number is a catalog number, not an issuing one, bit small for military and police.

What you have is a little "Turn Barrel" percussion pocket pistol. They were a fairly common type of weapon, made by very many different manufacturers , and of various qualities. Some high class, and some so poor that the weapon could be as dangerous to the user as the intended target. They were called 'turn barrel' because they came with a key that fitted to the hexagona l /octagonal area at the base of the barrel which was unscrewed for loading.
