Dr. Tobias Capwell, arms and armor curator at the Wallace Collection in London, gave a talk at Orange Coast College in Oct. 2014 to an audience of HEMA enthusiasts and medieval reenactors. The subject was how understanding the design and function of real medieval plate armor can help someone build their own suit of armor in a more historically accurate and properly functional way. Dr. Capwell's talk included plenty of details from his own experience designing and overseeing the creation of three of his own outstanding armors. |
Enjoy!

Very much enjoyed seeing the details, in-process shots and the thoughts behind the beautiful armors I've seen online. Thank you!

Great lecture, sound quality is rubbish unfortunately but it's worth it for the content. It always amazes me how much Dr. Capwell knows about armor. I've looked at that monster face painted sallet so many times and I never put it together that the lines on the crown were supposed to be fluting.
Can anyone tell me what the painting on the far-right is at 55:13?
