Hello all, a friend of mine and fellow weapon enthusiast is looking at buying a Scottish dirk, and would like something in the mid-18th Century. He came across this dirk made by R&R Sheffield, and would like to know if it would be appropriate for that era. If it wouldn't be, I'm curious what era it would best represent. As a side note, if this is not correct for the period, would you be able to point me in a direction as to what would be? Thanks in advance for any help.

That's a fully modern item. It's not historically-based and not really trying to be.

Nathan is right on the money. It is a modern dirk and does not resemble anything made in the 18th c. If you are looking for something to duplicate an 18th c. dirk you are going to have to find a custom maker - and there are quite a few of them, who reproduces dirks of that era. I can recommend Vince Evans for an excellent dirk at what is a very good price for such quality work. There are others as well, such as Glen McClain (I hope I spelled it correctly). Armour Class, in Glasgow, Scotland, use to make some pretty nice dirks for lower prices but has discontinued that line. For my money one by Vince or Glen is worth the wait and the cost.
