Hi, there are quite a few examples of what we might consider "Scottish" type arming swords in Ireland, with the depressed quillons and rat-tail tangs:
I am wondering if there any examples of the Irish open ring type swords that have been found in Scotland?

That's a good question but I highly doubt it as there were so few found in Ireland and the Scotts fought in Ireland as hired soldier's. ... Very few Irish fought in Scotland and the only ones I read about used the Scottish great sword...
Hi Neal. Nope no evidence for ring pommels in Scotland. Some probably have made there way over in the hands of redshanks returning home, but we can't be sure.
Thanks guys.
