Yesterday was a good day. A good day to turn 54. Several excellent things happened ...

1. I received a birthday card from my best friends ...

2. The company I work for, having gone through Chapter 11, was purchased by another
company that may allow me to remain employed ( knock on linoleum ) ...

And ...

3. A carefully put together box arrived from John Lundemo of OdinBlades ...



In due time, to borrow a phrase from a lyric of a Led Zeppelin song, all will be
revealed ...

Silly people don't you know that John makes the best boxes. And its a beautiful box. Congrats Matthew on your new box acquisition. :D

Clearly an archetypal representative of the Type I box, used in a variety of period techniques involving subterfuge and concealment. An elegant box, for a more... civilized age. It is said that the Type I was named when someone said, "I would like to see what's in that box." ;)

From the thread title I 'd expect a scimitar or a yatagan, something middle eastern anyway...

To resurrect and old thread, you are too much in armours when you found yourself laughing at the pirlate of Scott and Sam like they are two Zelig's comics.

And at least to accurately categorized the box we need an image of the intern... It's accademical accepted that you can't define the tipology of a box only by is exterior.

Bearing in mind the name of the thread ("The Mehmet"), I assume Matthew will show us his new Sultan Mehmet's Fatih (The Conqueror) kilij.

... curbing my birthday exuberance I patiently sat before the package and chose to proceed cautiously.
I examined the slim parcel, turning it this way and that. Eight nails held the frame together at the sides.
Twenty screws fastened top and bottom in place. Clear tape sealed the edges against splinters. Ahhh,
this would require tools -- a scalpel and a screwdriver, a PHILLIPS head screwdriver no less ! -- and
perhaps the dexterity of a bomb-defusing expert. Thus prepared I chose one side as the top and went
to work.

Eight screws later, and an incision three-quarters way round, I gently pried the lid open, letting it fall back
to hit the carpet softly. I braced myself emotionally --

Dam, now the mystery of bubble wrap challenged me ...

Fascinating. I haven't seen bubble wrap like that since receiving my A&A Danish Axe. I wonder what that can mean?

The POB on John's bubble wrap is amazing. I can speak first hand that the balance is awesome. I note he pre-pops every 29th bubble at the end to give it the correct taper as well.

It's clearly a 4-1 EBP (European Bubble Pattern)...

Now I have to see the bottom of the box to determine it's tipology.
