So, in what seems to be becoming my habit, I'm looking for opinions on this Windlass offering.

I am honestly looking at more of a project sword, so I am wondering more about how the fittings appear and how the blade is. There is a vague idea of stripping my incoming wife's Windlass XIV and swapping the fittings to make something she likes better and get my brother-in-law a sword as well.

And no, historical accuracy isn't the big plan of this idea.

Gosh I hope windlass made Barnstone is still around. That sword only had a pob of 3 inches, sadly it was discontinued. This sword looks heavy, but I'm sure it'll make a nice project.

This sword gets pretty good reviews from those who have owned/owned it. I have always liked it a bit myself for a budget longsword that could probably be modified and customized fairly easily.

Windlass re-named this one "Sword of Roven" a few years back so you'll find info on it under that title too.

A couple of reviews by folks who liked the sword quite a bit.

I owned one and liked it, the ricasso makes for a reasonably stiff blade and it's pretty light in hand. Most everyone who has owned one will recommend it as one of Windlass's better pieces.

One thing you should know when you go to customize it is that the threaded end of the tang is thicker than the slot in the grip. The grip is sandwiched over the tang and apparently installed in two pieces, because it can't move over the end of the tang without splitting some. I pulled off the grip on mine and it opened up where it was glued together, although not completely. It's not that big a deal but you would have to re-glue it together.

Oh, cool. An economy Type XX. I've been musing at having one someday after seeing A&A's fantastic version of the weapon. It'd be nice if the A&A Type XX were a production sword. A fool may dream, may he not?
