I am planning to make an 14-15c. round or oval italian infantry shiled, like the ones sold at Medival Design (http://www.medievaldesign.com/accessori/scudobig.jpg) in Italy. (More info in the bottom of this page; http://www.medievaldesign.com/articolieng.html).

I have found one source for that type of shields; the painting "The Battle of San Romano" by Paolo Uccello (http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/uccello/...attack.jpg) (circa 1440) - cutout of the shield attatched below.

I have been unable to locate any other 15c. sources for that type of shield - and the thought of making the shield, with only one historical source as reference, doesn't appeal to me.

Does anybody know of other historical descriptions, pictures, statutes - or even better; archaological findings, of shields of the above mentioned type?

I've seen another painting of what I believe is this shield, but I'm far from knowladgeable about italian armor fashion. If there's another type of long oval late-period shield, that might be it... :confused:

I'll see if I can find the title and artist, and maybe a scan if the painting doesn't come up on google.
