I have just finished a great helm modelled on the Madeln A, one of the earliest extant great helms, from c1250. The original was buried under rubble at Schloss Madeln during the earthquake of 1356, and has been housed in the Cantonal Museum in Liestal, Switzerland since its discovery and restoration.

My version is made of 14 gauge throughout, with a 10 gauge faceplate (at the customer's request). It is fitted with a quilted linen liner, modelled after those depicted on roughly contemporary tomb sculptures.

I don't really have any expertise in this period...but I think that turned our real nice :D I has a utilitarian look about it that I can really appreciate. It looks like a helm that was meant to be used.

This helm is gorgeous, Im jealous of the person who commissioned it... ;-) Just kidding, it was me. Im really looking forward to holding it in my hands.
