Artillery Box
I thought I would celebrate the renewal of my gunpowder licence (a UK requirement) by making myself a little 'Artillery Box' to put it in - sort of a 'powder store' for the 'powder monkey'!
It's just painted pine, and the fittings are a combination of hand-forged ones and modified commercially available ones, so it's not quite Period Correct. But all those odd angles proved to be a challenge!
Enjoy and be inspired,
Julian

Hi Julian,
in which period were such boxes used? Looks nice.

Thanks guys,
I guess it's of a 'style' that would be good for the 15th through to the 17thC. Once you start putting your powder charges in bags, after all, you need somewhere to put them that's safe, secure and weatherproof on the field of battle. And you wouldn't have had the limber that came later, to carry your charges.
However, on a more modern note, any interior designer knows the value of having interesting boxes to keep one's 'stuff' in, and these certainly catch the eye......

I was thinking that these would be insanely popular in a catalog like Crate and Barrel. They gave up the crates and barrels long ago, but they've retained austere aesthetic.
