MRL German Cut & Thrust ?
Does anyone have one of these or ever handled one? This is another MRL piece that was discontinued and disappeared from the catalog without warning,(last seen in cat# 79) Just curious. Had a plan for using the basket off one to mount onto another blade.

Thanks,
Bill

I sort of liked the look of this when I saw it in the catalog. But the listed weight is on the heavy side. It's likely to be heavier than the listed weight, as the last 5 swords from Windlass I've received were heavier.

Hi William...

I do have one and would be glad to answer any specific questions if I can.

Here are the stats...

MRL German Cut and Thrust
Measurements and Specifications

Weight: 3.2 pounds
Overall Length: 40.5 inches
Blade Length: 34 inches
Blade Width: 1.65 inches
Fullers: None
Guard Width: 9.5 inches
Grip &Pommel: 6.4 inches
Grip Length: 4.1 inches
Point of Balance: 4.1 inches from guard
Center of Percussion: 21 inches from guard

It is a little over three pounds but it does not feel that heavy because the heavy pommel and basket balances the blade. It has that beautiful swept hilt look but is a sword of war and not just a dueling weapon. It has a screw-on pommel and the welds of the basket are very well done, ground down and polished. The hilt is nice and tight. The blade is very flexable and well tempered but not whippy at all. And it has fewer ripples in the blade than any MRL I have seen so far. The only problems are that I have seen is the forward ring guard is bent back a little (however I think I have seen originals with this feature). And there appears to be a crack in the wooden core of the grip under the leather. This is not a problem for me since I was planning on replacing the grip and giving it a much fancier leather and twisted wire look.

I am very pleased with this MRL German Cut and Thrust sword (especially for the money).

Here are some pics...

Oh, that's good! the version I held weighed a bit over 4 pounds. At 3.2 pounds, it sounds very nice.
Kirk, thanks for the info and pics. Makes me want to find one,(that someone really wants to get rid of cheap) and put a back sword type blade onto the hilt.
