Now, we can’t let Tom get all of the press, because a certain sword and buckler-wielding artist has been at work, too.

"The Thwart Stroke takes whatever comes from the Roof"
In these words, and hundreds of mnemonic verses like them, the Grandmaster Johannes Liechtenauer recorded the secrets of the sword, leaving it to later masters to expand on his words with both pen and brush, such as the written commentaries in the Von Danzig Fechtbuch, or the beautifully rendered cuts, thrusts, parries and disarms portrayed in the painted miniatures of Peter Falkner.
Earlier this year, renowned swordsman and professional illustrator Roland Warzecha honored the unique blend of martial and artistic magnificence in Royal Armouries Ms. I.33 with a beautifully rendered collector's poster. Roland continues this series by turning his artist's eye to the Liechtenauer tradition, beginning with its central weapon, the longsword, showing a series of responses from the Zwerchhau or "Thwart Stroke". Designed with the artistic spirit of old manuscripts and explorer's journals, this 14 X 28 full-color poster is printed on a heavy, durable cardstock, making it ideal for framing.
The Freelancers
I'll definitely be picking one of those up!
