I don't care for the area I'm living at the moment, and in the next year I hope to be able to relocate to an area that suits me better. So I was curious to hear anyone's opinion as to what state they believe has the largest WMA community. My criteria would be a good school or two with a sizable membership that offers instruction in Western Martial Arts, and hopefully several events like Ren Faires, conventions, etc in the area over the course of a year that I could attend. In short, a solid community of like-minded individuals passionate about all the things we talk about on this forum.
My sense is that the east coast seems to have more going on than the west, but that may only be an assumption on my part. Originally I'm from San Francisco so I would love it if there was a large community in the wider bay area that I might be able to contact, but I'm open to other suggestions as well.
Your thoughts?
The DC area is chock full of WMA schools, renfaires and things of that ilk. Not to mention, day-trips to NYC, Baltimore, etc are possible.
Take a look at this handy map to get some idea of the distribution of WMA:

Is there a combined map that includes the Midwest?

Very useful tool, thanks!
And thank you Jessica. I didn't realize the DC area was such a hub for folks like us:-)
I'd say the DC area has the most schools, and it's followed by Florida.

Yes, and if you're going to move to that area, make sure you move to VA and NOT MD or DC itself. This is for reasons that will become apparent to you once your interest in weapons expands to things that go boom, if it's not there already.

Maryland isn't THAT bad, unless you intend to equip small armies in your spare time......
