Linen covered Viking Scabbards
Hi,
Can anyone remember some discussions on Viking Scabbards with OUTER coverings of linen? Somewhere there was a discussion with photos of some reproductions, made by custom sword makers. I lost my file that had the photos due to computer problems. One photo was of a linen covered scabbard against a shield with leather trim.
I've tried various searches and just cant turn it up again.

Any help appreciated.
Regards
Robert
I typed in "linen scabbard" into our search form and got this:

Maybe it's useful to you. There are many other results, too.
That was my first scabbard. I was working alongside Johan Gemvik via computer while we both made linen scabbards. Johan has most of the research, but I see it is inluded in those links. I've since enjoyed making another one with a linen over wood core, with a final leather wrap. I'll be glad to share my thighs further if you have any questions. It's good to see more interest in what I think is an under-represented part of historic replication.

Oh yeah, that's what happens when the iPod decides to spell check. I'll have to retract my offer to share my thighs with everyone! Ha ha.
Might not be as kinky as it sounds. If you got enough chicken or turkey thighs we can break out the BBQ sauce. ;)

I'll join you for that one!

Hi,
Well I want to thank everyone for the help. I was from this able to track down the scabbard. It turns out to have been made by Paul Binns. There were a few others that I found really interesting. I'm thinking of having one made like his, just for something different.

This has always been my favorite forum. The people are always friendly and helpful. But I must admit that Tim has taken friendly to a new level!

Best Regards
Robert
