Hi All,
Last year Myself and Owen Bush amongst many others worked on a program filmed largely in the UK for The National Geographic Channel called 'Medieval fight book' based on the works of Talhoffer. The show is presented by Mike Loades.
I made the judicial duelling shields and the hardened leather 'walking basket'
Well you lot in the States are obviously more blessed that us as it is going out in the US on National Geographic Channel on Tuesday 18th January at 10pm.
We still do not even have a broadcast date here in the UK.
I hope it is good, please let us know.
Regards
Tod
I'm excited to see this!
Leo, is there any chance you could post or pm your Langenschilt design notes? I am very interested in building some of my own this spring.

yeah, a downloadeable copy would be nice - at least if this is not against mr. Todeschini`s will.
ARMA is pretty excited about this show too. We have members involved in it.
As usually, the video won't play for users in my country, damn :(

I am afraid that I did not have a notes as such, I looked at few of the pictures and surmised how they were made and made some.
For your reference I made the central spar from ash and tapered it down to form the points at the end of the shields and this was nailed/rivetted to the shield front.
The shield was formed from 12mm poplar boards butt glued and cut to form; the central box was made from poplar boards and pegged and bonded to the main shield. The hooks were made from elm and bonded and through rivetted to the spars, sandwiching the main boards of the shield.
The box area had 2" wide strips of linen bonded on over the joints inside and out and then the whole was covered in linen and then gesso.
I have attached a picture and I hope this helps.

Well that would be very welcome - thank you, as the production company will not release a copy here until it is broadcast. If you manage to record it please let me know.

Were your shields the ones used in the fight sequences?
Aaand... It doesn't play in Australia :(
Oh, and Tod, you've inspired me to go make a dueling shield!

Walter, google something called Perian. It's a OS X program but I'm fairly sure they have a windows version or can point you to it's equivalent. That should take care of your codex playback woes.
I really hope one of you lucky lucky people who get to watch it will record it (preferably in HD) and share it with us! I am really eager to see it since is was there when they filmed part of it.
I expected more on wma and was impatient with the extended experiments with more fanciful illustrations--diving suit, siege bell, crayfish, etc.--none of that very convincing in terms of practicality. No dueling shields. Bush got good exposure in his brief bit. JC's sparring against full plate was the best part, IMO. I'd love to see the cut wma footage. Future program, perhaps?

You misunderstood. The site gives me message that "Video is not available to your country because of copyright". That is not a codec issue. I suppose I could try using a proxy in different country. I'm not sure why, but I get this message very often when trying to watch streamed videos from official sites.
I watched it tonight as well; three thumbs up.
I just came across this thread, so I didn't think to record it. Sorry folks.
