i apologize if this has already been discussed but since i couldn't find it i decided to ask.

a friend of mine and i were sitting around a camp fire talking about armor and weapons of the 14th and 15th cen
and it got me wondering. i know a coat of plates could have leather used as the covering and the material that holds the plated together, but I'm wondering if there are records or examples of leather covered breastplates and such.
or if anyone has done it.

I actually think these were common in the later part of the 14th century.
English effigies from around this time appear to depict what is probably a globose breastplate and faulds covered by leather/velvet/cloth.
And I keep seeing pictures of an Italian harness with what looks like a velvet /leather covered globose breastplate.

Few of the surviving 14thC torso armour show any sign of leather covering. There is a 15thC leather covered brigandine in the Musee de l' Armee. Cloth seems to have been the more common covering material.
