leafing through "The Archaeology of Weapons", I stumbled across the dagger shown below. I have only seen one dagger with a similar pommel, it is shown in the online archives of the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin. Unfortunately this piece is not on display.
Does anyone know any other examples in period art, are there any photos in any books, any measurements?
The blade in Oakeshott´s drawing seems very long, with a short fuller. Oakeshott describs the blade as "long, slender and acutely tapering, with two edges". The pommel is lozenge-shaped, with a small lug protruding on each side, and with two chevrons and a fleur de lys depicted on it.
Any further information on this kind of dagger would be very welcome.
Thank you very much.
Mark
