Ok I sold my darksword and my hanwei so now I am going yo buy another Albion but there are so many to choose from. I decided to have an Albion Castellan made. I read myArmoury's review and I would like to hear from other Castellan owners their thoughts on this Gem. Thanks
I bought my Castellen back in 2004 when it first came out. It is still one of my favorite swords. It handles beautifully, and it has a very strong, if acute point. It can cut, but that isn't its strength. It was designed to thrust through seams and chinks in plate armor. I love the pommel type - beautifully made - and its shape fits comfortably into the heel of my hand, so that two hands can fit easily onto the grip.
I say get it!

Thanks Roger thats good to hear. I actually over looked this sword for several years and it was not one of the contenders until I looked at all their swords a couple days ago. I think I am really going to enjoy this sword!
Not that many have chosen the Castellan. That's too bad, since it is such a fantastic sword. If someone wants an Albion XVa, they usually go with one of the other models with the more standard looking blade, like the Talhoffer or the Agincourt.. Because of its special pommel, the Castellan is also the most expensive XVa,
I am sure that you will love this sword.

Precisely why I over looked this sword. I had picked the ringneck to fill the type XVa slot. I think what draws me to this sword is the wide base which really makes the taper stand out. I love that blade!
It's a great sword, and probably would be the next Albion I'd buy if I had the money or room to put it somewhere.
I received my Castellan and must say that pictures do not do this sword justice. Roger the pommel is awesome and totally agree with your assessment! The Castellan may not be a top pick among our community but viewed in person it would be. The detail and performance at 982.00 is a great buy.
I'm glad that you're happy with it. Welcome to the Castellan Club.
My most recent sword purchase was one of the two rusted antiqued Castellans for sale on the moat page. I have almost completely finished cleaning the blade. One of the things I love about the Castellan is that its a true bastard sword, in the sense that you can just as easily use it with two hands as with one. If you look at it's total length, it is actually quite close to the length of some single handed swords. The thin XVa blade makes it a joy to handle, and I think both the guard and the pommel are really elegant.
It's funny- when I first started looking at longswords, I was really in love with the Type XVas, and the Squire Line Late 15th C Bastard Sword was my first Albion and first real sword. After a while, however, I found myself less interested in XVas, which had seemingly lost my attention. Now that I've got a Castellan, my appreciation for XVas has renewed, even if the hold they once had on me is not as strong.
