Hi All,

This is a longsword just finished last week with hilt and scabbard by myself and blade by Owen Bush. The customer really gave me quite an open brief and I really enjoyed working on it so chose elements that I thought would work well together. I hope you like it.

The guard is based on one from a sword in the Bayerisches Museum and the pommel is based on one from the Met.

The overall weight is 3 1/2 lb

That's a very handsome piece -- stylish without being overdone. I like it. :)

Very nice setup! I love the pommel.

The whole thing comes together incredibly nicely. The sword and scabbard have a nice balance between decoration and utility. I see a very well developed sense of balance in this sword and scabbard. Actually my comments sound like I"m responding to a piece of art as opposed to a weapon although it is clearly both.

Do you have any more information, like overall length? Is the blade diamond shaped or hollow ground? It looks diamond shaped in one picture and hollow ground in the other.

If you love the look of this piece I can tell you it feels even better ..... best feeling longsword I have handled .... ever.

The only critique I can think of is that the scabbard is almost too plain for it ! Harsh I know :eek:

I really also like the scabbard suspension. I'd love to see a picture of how it hangs when worn.

The pommel decoration is really nice!

I would like to have more information concerning the blade too. Flat diamond shape or hollow-ground ? How thick is it at the base ?

That is a very elegant sword. I particulary like the striated pommel.

I rather like it. It has beautiful proportions and is decorate enough to not come across as boring to me. I've never quite liked those S-curved quilions, but otherwise, it's pretty ideal.

Really nice detail work in the pommel. I'd like to see additional shots of the blade.

The crossguard is really interesting! :cool:

Fittings are mild steel, handle is beech, cord wrapped and leather covered. Blade is flat diamond

Overall weight of sword 3.5lb
Blade is 36"
Handle guard to peen is 12"
POB is 1.5" from guard

blade at hilt is 9.5mm
at 6" is 5.5mm
at 12" is 4.5mm

and a fairly steady taper from there

at 24" 3.7mm

at 30" 3.1mm

I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season and will have a happy new year. I am the proud owner of this treasure. Tod and Owen have created a beautiful sword for me. As Tod said I gave him a very open request/brief so he could express his talent which he has done wonderfully. I basically asked for a Oakeshott type XVIIIb blade, Scent stopper pommel, and style 12 cross guard. I emailed Tod many photos of swords which I found attractive, but really liked the sword from the Bayerisches Museum as I desired a sword which would reflect my German heritage, and be reflective of a career warrior, as I have served 21 years in the military. A sword which is not to fancy, yet reflects someone who would own a high quality weapon. As I said before, Tod and owen have done this wonderfully. This sword is such a balanced pleasure to view and handle. So balanced in hand that handling it with one hand is a pleasure, and a testament to their talent. I just want to thank Tod, and Owen for such a wonderful sword and for your kind comments. I look forward to working with Tod again soon on a companion dagger, and other projects. I wish you all a happy new year.

Impressive work and I especially like the guard and it's sculptural bevels and planes/ridges that are very aesthetically pleasing as well as looking robust but not chunky.

The pommel filework is also very good and matches the feel of the guard.

Blade, scabbard i.e. the whole package is very appealing. :D :cool:

I love the pommel work, very nice! Overall its a great piece. I have a soft spot for that guard too!
