Does anyone know anything about these epees? They are a matched pair and look to be hand made. The maker's mark visible on the hilt is WeDi SOLINGEN. They look to be made of excelent steel though not polished. The hand guard seems to be hammered and riveted by hand. The pommel is newly wrapped with jute. Each has a leather finger hold that is in good shape. I have attached pictures. I bought them from an estate sale.

Those were, or are, used in student corporations, the duelling kind.
They pop up here and there in antique shops.
I almost bought one once in Munich, but it was a tad to expensive for my taste.

Mr Ingram,
given the hand protection, the recess for the thumb, and the leather for the finger, I would figure that these are sabres and not epees. The sabre will study the cut, which the epee neglects. These are surely older models. JCH
