Use the search function and you'll find tons of material. Here's a nice video:

I've been looking at these, but I'm undecided:

Their rapiers are on the heavy side, so I'm hesitant to buy one without handling it first.

Hi Nathan,
What about this:
http://www.swords.pl/index.php5?page=Product&...mp;lang=en (I refer to product '7013, the bottom piece).
Although it's labelled 'Cutlass XV c.', but the blade length and the blade shape makes it looks like a 'messer' too, in my opinion (but I'm a novice in this arena)
:D

Hello All,
My group ordered 6 nice aluminum trainers from Walter Neubauer in Germany <walter.neubauer@freenet.de>.
He makes them for the group Ochs and if I'm not mistaken the pair used in the Ochs DVD was made by Walter.
At first we thought we wanted blunt steel for our training weapons too, but now we are quite happy with our trainers.
His prices are quite fair, he has more than one model to choose from and a fair number of options to choose from. He had ours ready in less than a month.
Drop him an e-mail.
Cheers,
David Teague

Here in Germany quite a few people have and use the Aluminium Messer, they stand up quite well. The newer models are even lighter and better balanced. I got mine last year, which was of the older variety. But it is still a nice piece.

Peter Johnson and Bill Grandy are greatly knowledgeable on the subject.
There's also a thread here. I think I killed it, but it has great info inside.

That's what we thought too, as our other training swords are blunted steel (longsword, arming sword, small sword, Basket hilted Broadsword, saber) but the messer lends it's self to aluminum better than any other type of sword I've handled.
Add in the fact that most messer fencers either have wood, nylon , or aluminum nobody with let you hit their training tool with a steel blunt. Makes training solo forms. :(
Cheers.

Walter told me he's made over 600 aluminum trainers so far.
That's a few.
