Hi everyone,
I bought a sword a little while ago, but I am now curious to see if it has been properly heat treated. I was wondering if anyone can tell me any methods to test for proper heat treatment in a sword. I don;t want to do anything drastic ie anything that would damage or harm the sword in any manner. I am mostly looking for simple things I can do. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

test for proper heat treatment in a sword is not possible. Test for this, is drastic.
But is possible measure the hardness.
I believe that the only way you have to measure is to use a "durometer".
It measures the hardness Rockwell. The maximum hardness for a sword is about 50 HRC. Besides steel tends to chip. The imprint of measurement is very small. Here the "durometer"
