I'm looking for a particular painting that portrays a lightly armed man with what i recall are relatively thin strips of mail attached to the outside of his arms. He is wearing some form of cloth armor (gambeson or arming coat).
If you can recall this painting, please let me know.
Thanks,
Dustin
Is it this soldier by Memling?
It is a detail found on Memlings larger work on the martyrdom of Saint Ursula.

I know the painting in question, but couldn't track it down with a quick search.
It's a painting of a 16th century knight in his arming doublet with his voiders attached.
Most people miss the "odd" period knee brace he's wearing.
Good luck with the search.
If I remember the last thread I saw it on I'll post it for you.
Cheers,
DT

no, but those jack-chains are pretty cool.
if you are looking for the one posted by alberto is a portrait by Moroni, mid 16th century, of a knight of the Avogadro family

Are you looking for drawings of 16th century arming coats with maille? |
Great image David. But what is the item on the middle right?
Thanks,
Steven
Probably not what was originally referred to, but maybe interesting anyway - St Eustace from the Paumgarter Altarpiece has what appear to be strips of mail as a limb defense, but on his legs, not his arms:

Thank you.
