I believe the SL doesn't have as fine a finish as the NextGen. I own a SL Clontarf, and it is a fine sword. I have not been able to compare it to a NextGen, however.

Max, I own already a next gen. Vinland (in fact the first sword I ever purchased). But the price was roughly twice the price for the SL Vinland, hence my question

Mike is right about the edge geometry :-) Also the fittings on the SL Vikings are tumbled - which creates a different (and less time consuming finish) than on the NG version ...and finally no cord has been wrapped around the leather on the grip while drying - so there is no cord impression (like on the NGs).

I like the idea of viking swords being less finely finished, seems appropriate. So then how well do these squire line Viking swords cut once sharpened?

Wow, that was quick! You must have been reading over my shoulder as I wrote my note. Thank you very much. Yes, I heartily agree $1000.00 + is a LOT of money! $505.00 for your sword sounds like really excellent value.

So, I take it you like your SL Clontarf ! :lol: How do you like the hilt? Have you terrorized any pool noodles or executed any jack o lanterns?

I'd been sort of thinking that the SL Gotland might have a place in my future. Your review of your sword certainly makes me more inclined to get it.

Have you made a scabbard and/or a baldric? If I bought the sword I'm almost certain I'd make a shield to go with it. I suppose a scabbard too but I haven't done much with leather.

As I said, I've been looking at these and wondering about them, I hadn't gotten to ogling them I was still in the looking stage.

You guys are nudging me into ogling. Shame on you!

These certainly sound like good solid swords and yet they are at a price point that allow an owner to use it and customize the grip for example without feeling like they're risking a small fortune.

I just wish that Albion would extend the Squire Line into the Medieval range a bit more. I'd love to see a SL Crecy, Agincourt, and Squire.
