Need ID on gauntlets - XIV
I am trying to help a friend of mine completing the "setup" of an armour. Our time period is about 1397-1412, european with no deeper definition. He is rather large, in his eyes limiting some of the possibilities regarding breastplates and whole-plate armour.

He is really fond of the attached gauntlets (from skilled Tomek) , but I can not say I have seen anything like these before. Does anybody remember seeing them on any pictures, effies or statues? We are both very interested in seeing what kind of armour would go with this, as it may be something that he could like.

Thanks in advance

They are more inspired than anything. They are patterned after the wisby gauntlets. They are not patterend after a specific one though of the three complete ones found.

This is Cad's website of wonderful armour pictures. He has drawings of the Wisby gaunts.

They would be quite old by 1390's as they were left in 1361. It is figured the men fighting were not higher ups so you can assume if they were wearing them in 1361 that they would not be worn by a knight much after 1350, perhaps 1360 in mainstream europe. Now if he is doing a commoner I guess it would work for the 4th quarter of the 14th and even perhaps early 15th.

How could I have missed that? Thank you for clearing this out! The original intentions of our group is to portray a quite rich group of mercenaries in 1397-1412, so in that case, they would be a bit off.

But then again, fashion vs. common use is another question.
