Hi
I got two pictures from a greek chronic, showing battle scenes, and no any other infos. On the one side there are shurely east romans, but I have just ideas who the other soldiers could be.
I think, the pics are showing the battle of Arcadiopolis in 970 or 71, where the kiev rus, pecheneg, bulgarian and hungarian allies were beaten by an east roman force. There is a normann like killed soldier with long axe and shield in a picture, and enough nomad riders too.
Or it could be the battle of Leubion (or Leobiun, I don't know) in 1122, where the last pecheneg force lost a battle against the greeks and their cipchak allies. (It is mentioned in the Alexias of Anna Komnenos) In that case the man with the axe could be a killed warangian.
Do someone know the origin of the pictures (title of the chronicle, the byzantine armour it is from the middle or from the late byz. period, etc.)
Thanks:
Zoltán
