CAS/Hanwei Bastardsword Prototype
Sharp blade shown- pics of the 'blunt' will be available as soon as it is finished!
Oakeshott Type: XVIIIa
OAL: 43-1/4 inches
Blade Length: 33-3/4 inches
Blade Width @ Base: 1-9/16 inches
Blade Width 1 inch from point: 5/16 inch
Blade thickness at base: .240 inches
Blade thickness 2 inches from tip: .65 inches
Distal taper is convex
Hilt OAL: 9-3/8 inches
Pommel Type: H
Guard Type: 1 (m)
COG: 3-5/8 inches from base of blade
Blade Node/COP: 20 inches from base of blade
Primary Hilt Node: On handle approx 1 inch from cross*
*(sword displays Complex Variable Harmonics)
Weight: 2lb12oz.

The picture of the hilt seems to show the cross being curved towards the hilt- this is an artifact of the photograph; it is in flact flat.

Is this your prototype, or the first finished product back in your hands from Hanwei?

This is the hand-made prototype for the second sword in the series. Still waiting on the Longsword production prototype- Hanwei's has had to nail down a supplier for the steel and get used to an entirely new (for them) heat treat process, so things have been going slower than we'd hoped, but I'm told that I should be seeing the longsword proto very soon.

OK- I shortened the point on the 'sharp' by roughly 1/2 inch because it was too fine and would bend to easily. Now- the sword pictured here is the same sword with the blunt sparring blade fitted. The edges are rounded. I used the fuller to move mass from the center to the edge to make both blades perform as identically as possible. The stats are shown for the sharp with the blunt's stats in parenthesis after.

Blade thickness 2 inches from tip: .65 inches (.82 inches)

Hilt OAL: 9-3/8 inches

Blade Node/COP: 20 inches from base of blade (21 inches from base of blade)
