Anybody have a source for 8 foot long 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 inch diameter Ash or Hickory poles to use as spear or pole arm shafts?

My Schule uses 8-foot ash shafts from Purpleheart for spear practice:

They're not quite correct--spear shafts should be tapered through their entire length--but they work quite well, and Purpleheart is a great company to do business with. I'm about to order hickory staves for the shafts of our steel pollaxe simulators, too.
hi there
I am pretty sure kingfisher can custom make something like this, if you are looking for very high end, they use blades finish rather than sandpaper.

Loggers use nice long ash poles for mounting their peavey's on, thus replacement poles for peavey's and "picks" look as though they would be perfect for darned near everything that needs a good stout ash handle, at not too unreasonable a price, too:

Thanks - great replies all of you.
Since I live in a logging area of the world - I think I shall pursue a logging supply house.
What with the emerald ash borer blight quite a few ash trees are coming down and ash can be had cheaply right now. One might want to "stock up".

I made my onehanded spear shaft by obtaining a 25mm ash plank (with the help of a luberjackly inclined friend), cutting of a 25x25mm section, and rounding it until it was comfortable to hold.
The plank in question is 50 cm broad, so there's enough for PLENTY of spearshafts. (i've also got a 35 mm one for polearm shafts, and a 50mm for bowmaking)
