They do strike me as being a bit strange, though I am no expert with viking swords. The listing says that the components are bronze, and implies that this is unusual (if I am reading it correctly). No matter to me - I am not in the market for a $20,000 antique!

I especially like this part: "Full provenance to purchaser after payment only." Umm... hmmm... :wtf:

Man I broke my own rule about commenting on these things again...

I got his Acta Militaria Mediaevalia book, and it has some great examples of medieval weapons and armor. Next time, I'll spring for the Priority shipping, as it took nearly 60 days to receive the book with Economy shipping from Poland...

Heads & Horses: Two Studies in the History of the Tower Armouries

It's a reprint from Archaeologia published by the Society of Antiquaries, 1976.

It includes an article about the Line of Kings in the Tower of London, discussing the carved heads of nobility that reflect how these guys looked when alive. It also discusses the intricate wooden horses on which the armour is mounted as well as the arms and armour within the Line.

The second study regards the Spanish armoury within the Tower and discusses the arms and armour contained within. It does not stop merely at descriptions of the items, but includes stories and history of them.

Photo plates are in the back.

Good stuff.
A sword reportedly from 1400 AD: http://cgi.ebay.com/EFTIS-MASTERPIECE-Decorat...dZViewItem

Has anyone ever seen a guard that looks quite close to this on a sword? I know of guards like the one on the Svante sword, but this one is highly unusual, to say the least.

That's a schiavonesca, an Italian style of sword. The were common in the late 15th century in Italy. There are two on display at the Philedelphia Museum of Art:

It's an Oakeshott Style 12 cross. Please see my article on The Schiavona and its Influences for examples like the sword in question. Should you wish to discuss this stuff, it's best to do so in a new topic.
