Does anyone know of any reviews made concerning the Musketeer Rapier manufactured by windlass steel?
Is it based on an actual piece or is it a composite of various pieces? Am I wrong to think that the etched musketeer cross on the cup hilt is a bit contrived, or did the musketeers actually have this engraving on their rapiers? Am also wondering about its construction and handling. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I cannot comment on the historical accuracy but can on the construction & balance.

My example is very well constructed, with one noteable exception: there is a metal sleeve over the exposed part of the ricasso 'under' the shell guard, It's there to make 'fingering' more comfortable, which it does. However on mine it was very loose. The hilt is easily disassembled (threaded tang/pommel) so I have removed the sleeve, I may replace it if I can mount it solidly. Otherwise it's all solidly put together, even finish (if you like nickel), clean welds, the blade's nice, the hilt is sturdy & well formed, the wire wrap on the grip is tight and clean.

On balance, it's fine but, compared to a few of my other rapiers it feels a bit... 'dead'. Not sure why, there's nothing obviously wrong and I hate to use such a negative term, maybe 'neutral' is a better word. It just doesn't feel as 'lively' as an A&A or Cervenka rapier does.

I have been looking for a AVBN type 83 hilt for awhile and this is as close as I could get without going full custom. I may carry this one to some Ren. faires (nickel does have it's advantages, rust-wise!) and may use this as a 'project sword' at some point. MRL/Windlass has some good values, just go into a purchase with your eyes wide open, knowing what you are looking for.
