It's DelTin...but...

...I'm not sure of the model. I have a LOT of MRL catalogs and even with my #29 and #38 (the two oldest ones I have that have survived the time and drool), I can't find this sword. I know it's old MRL, I know it's DelTin because of the blade marked "Made in Italy", and I even remember the picture in the catalog. But, I can't find info on it now. I've looked through all the hands-on reviews and even went back so far as 2004 in the forums and I came up with DelTin #5131 as a DelTin Falchion, but there are no pics.
I now come to you, whom I consider amongst the most learned sword afficianados I have ever met, to help me out.

Here's what I got. By the way, I got it on eBay for $46.00. Not to bad,eh?

That looks like an old 5131, assuming it really is a Del Tin. Here's a link to the current one: www.deltin.it/5131hi.jpg Almost looks like something Jack Sparrow would carry. :p Looks like that one you've got is in pretty good shape. Congrats for getting such a good deal on it!

Besides "made in Italy" does the blade have a makers mark on it?

We had a couple of swords like this for sale when I was pitching this kind of thing at Ren Faires many years ago. It looks a bit different than my memory, but I believe the blades are, in fact, DT5131s. As far as I know, that's where Del Tin's involvement ended. If I remember correctly, the hilts were not made by Del Tin, but by MRL in-house or by Windlass. The model came out back when Del Tin and MRL were parting ways and a lot of unusual things were happening during that time as product lines were changing. There was some overlap and dumping of old stock and other things that created some weird mixes of things. Simply put, I think you have a Museum Replicas sword that happens to be equipped with a Del Tin blade.

Thanks to all who have replied. Nathan. I know you are right. When I found the auction on eBay, it specifically said it was purchased from MRL. So, I know that. With the help of the above gentlemen above, I found the #5131 DelTin blade was indeed the same, just the crossguard with rainguard was differant. I was hoping someone would still have the MRL catalog with the description.

-Roger, I looked ALL over the blade, expecting to fing the "Running Wolf" mark, but only "Made in Italy" in very small lettering hidden behing the rainguard.

I'm having really good luck with eBay. I've now gotten this Falchion and a DelTin #2143 Hand and a Half AND a Starfire 28" One Hander all each under $50.00 (without shipping...blah!). I love it!

Remember the recent MRL sale for bare Del Tin blades that they found gathering dust on an unregarded shelf? Some of those blades were DT5131's. I bet that before they were put aside, some of those blades were used to make swords like this falchion.

Just my eyes. I go through Collectables/swords,knives,blades/swords/medieval and then I just scroll through them looking for those folks who don't quite know what they have. I don't listen to claims such as "Carbon steel" or "Battle-ready" because 9 times out of 10 they aren't. Just my eyes and what I already know from drooling over MRL and Arms and Armor catalogs.

As far as the blade goes and when it was cataloged in MRL, I remember it being in a catalog when they had drawings next to the sword where it showed a person or historic figure carrying it. Yeah, that was back in the late 80's.
