Yes it is the MRL wakefield that im looking for. I've noticed in reading other topics that MRL is a poor maker
of swords. Can you or someone else direct me towards a more sutable"battle worthy" sword maker who
also makes the same model as i am looking for? My funds are limited to what i can afford but quality is of
importance to me.

Michael "Tinker" Pearce made an awesome (and I understand more historically correct) version of the "Wakefield". It's passed hands a couple times, and where it is now, who knows (it was last at All Saints Blades, but they sold it. It went rather quickly, I might add)..... and Tink really isn't doing custom orders these days anyway.... I know that wasn't of much help, but Tinker's the only smith I know who made one.....

Thank you David Wilson for your reply. Right now im only interested in the MRL wakefield. I'm not sure if my buying price is
too low or if it just wasnt a popular sword.Any and all help would be appreacieated greatly.As far as use,this sword will not be used very much.It will mainly be kept in reserve unless needed.Some "alot" of practice will occur maybe even some cutting just to get a feel for it. :) Again thanks everyone for any and all help.

The Tinker is mine and is currently in the hands of our very own host here for a "test drive". I have had both versions and the MRL is NOT the same sword!!!

Thanks all,especially Nathan for the photos. Now i see a definite difference in the style and quality of manufacture. The custom Tinker prolly costs more since it is not mass produced.It will take me longer than i originally thought to purshase a high quality sword. I will keep my head up and continue to search for it. Thanks for all the help everybody and thanks Nathan for inviting me to this wonderful forum. :D

The Armour Class ones aren't too bad. I got to handle one once. It was blunted, and it handled pretty nicely. The balance is closer to the hand than I personaly would prefer, but otherwise I liked it. (Jeff: I saw Christian's at MASHS. Same friend?)

Nathan,I was wondering if you could send me a copy of the picture with the MRL wakefield and the Tinker custom ?Wanted to put it on the background of my pc. :D If you cant or wont i'll understand.Thanks for your time. :)

David Lannon,How were they different? Did you prefer one over the other?and if you want to how much did you pay for the Tinker custom? All information is appreaciated and welcomed.

The biggest thing I noticed is the MRL version seems to have a downward curve to it like a Kukri although not as pronounced. It is also a much more massive sword even though the overall size is about the same. The fit and finish of the Tinker is much better although his newer stuff I have held is better still. The backedge of the Tinker is also sharpened. The MRL is also noticibly heavier and the guard is overbuilt. If I have any complaint of the Tinker I would prefer the grip to be leather wrapped. It is pinned like a knife hilt. I think I paid $650 ish for it from Josh.

As an aside, I think Tinker could concentrate on Western curved blades almost entirely and sell the as fast as he put them on BladeArt. There is a total lack of this style of blade, and from my exposure to the various forums, a HUGE demand for them. I have one of Tinkers Swiss style sabers which I am having Erik Stevenson re hilt in the traditional Swiss style. Now that is one sword I cant wait for!!!!
