My new Tinker Sword

Hey guys, as promised I'm posting some pictures of my new baby. I don't have a name yet since the tradition in my group is you can't name it unless it draws blood, and I don't feel like typing right now with a band aid on my finger. ;-)

It cuts very well through water jugs and tatami mats. I imagine it would do just as fine through pool noodles as well. I really couldn't classify it as an Oakeshott type. The blade geometry and fuller suggests a Type XVI but it seems to have a lenticular cross section rather than a flattened diamond. However it thrusts very well through cardboard boxes with no flex at all, so who knows, maybe it has a "disguised" diamond cross section after all. It feels good, cuts good and is fast to so it really doesn't matter how it types out I guess. :-)

Here are some measurements.
Overall Length: 42 inches
Blade Length: 32.5 inches
Grip Length: 7.25 inches between guard and pommel
Guard Length: 8 inches

I don't have a scale to weigh it, but it is lighter than my Albion Crecy and probably less than 3 lbs. in weight. The scabbard is made of thick leather but put together so cheaply that I'd be embarrassed to walk around with it. So I need to get a new scabbard made for it sometime in the future.

Well I should say that I got this at a Renaissance Faire two weekends ago in Visalia, California for a lot of money (four figures). You'll probably pay less than I for your sword. The only I advantage I had was to be in the right place at the right time with the right bank balance for the right sword. :-)

If the one you're ordering is anything like mine then I can tell you it will be definitely worth the wait. :-)

I've been to the faire at Visalia before. Why was your sword so expensive? Which vendor sold it?

Mine isn't much better than yours. It's a bit over 900 USD for me coupled with endless waiting. Recently I noticed that I may not be the only one who is in the same position...

You know, for the life of me I don't remember and I don't have their card. They have a wooden weapon weapon trailer/booth and sell Atrims, some custom knife stuff and a lot of blunt fighting swords too. Nice guy and his wife. I feel embarrassed that I don't remember their names. :-(

In any case, I figured they paid full price for it from Mr. Pierce and were just charging me a profit. I consider it worth it though, and that's what counts I suppose. :-)

Ok, if you're telling me what you paid I guess I can come clean too. I paid $1200 USD for mine. I figured, and I guess your experience confirms it, that I would probably have to wait forever to get a Tinker sword in the future and for the money getting this sword which I loved now was worth it.

Now I know know I didn't pay that much more than you (only 25% more) and so I'm more comfortable with what I spent. :-)

Good luck in getting your sword soon, you'll be happy for the wait when you do I'm sure.

That's it, they're the ones! I feel like an idiot for forgetting, especially as he made it so pleasant for me to give him $1200 for a sword. :-) If he's reading this, apologies for forgetting you. In any case thanks Nathan for reminding me. :-)
