I've been entertaining the tought of a custom made XIV.1. Now I cannot find any measurements besides the overall and blade length. I suppose i could scale up the photo in "Records of the medieval sword" to get some quite accurate measurements but such things as distal taper, pommel thickness and weight I would have to get from another suorce.
I suppose I could ask a smith to make a piece inspired by this one and then trust the smiths knowledge. The other way would be to see the exact measurements. Is such measurements available anywhere?
It's quite a beefy sword with a blade width at base about 3,4 inches. That figure is from scaling up the picture in "Records" but I don't know how exact that method is as the picture may be distorted depending on angles and such.
Type XIV is one of my favourite types. The XIV.1 seems like a hand and half sword like the Edward III. The hilt has room for two hands if you grasp the pommel with the second hand. Overall length is a tad over 40 inches witha bladelength of 32 inches.

Hi Kenneth,
I like the XIV family too and it would be nice to see a quality repro made of that sword. Records indicates that it currently resides at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. You might try contacting them to see if they could provide any further specifics.
Regards,
Mike
