Nice, Burton ya old Roman-fetishist. :) Dimensions and materials used?
Is that a huge boss or a small shield? Looks like a viking-roman-buckler...mysko prylar!

Det blir alltid mysko när Martin är igång med något. ;) [Translation for the non-Swedish members of the community: "Weird stuff always happen when Martin is up to something."]
That's really good looking, Martin! I like the motif, even if it is just something you made up. :)

it has a diameter of around 60 cm.
It is the size of a signifiers shield. Just a fun toy!
Bill: Thanx man. It was fun to make. It is still a few details to do before it is safe to use though!

It´s a laminated board covered in linen on both sides. The boss is a spinning and it is boiled in lineseedoil (think it´s called that) and it is riveted on with converted bolts. The edge is lined with 4 mm leather and it is riveted on. The colours are Acrylid and really unhistorical :D :D !
The grip on the backside (not shown) is straight and placed in the roman fachion (horisontal)!
Tha backside is painted in Faluröd (rust-red)!
It is 62 cm in diameter and weighs about 2 kg.
Martin
Okay. Thanks for the info. Now would you say that you think that the shield would stand up to serious abuse? And how does those 2 kgs feel to move around? What kind of gripping method do you use with it? Is it wielded (and held) like a buckler?

No not with a sharp blade in action! I would had a layer of wax-boiled leather and a couple of layers more of linnen! But I will put it so the test as soon as I have made another more correct one. Feel free to help me in that endevour! ;) :p :D

In the beginning a littleheavy when used to a buckler! And the techniques are somewhat different, a tad bit more defensive but not by much. I use it as a very large buckler, and the use becomes quite active. It is good for making openings and of course to diflect attacks. What strikes me is how you need to get in on the left side to harm your opponant when he use a shield of this size on the contrary from longsword where the right side is more of the "normal" side to attack. The "dance" turns clockwise more oftan than in a single weaon fight.
