Hi Everyone.
First, I am a newbie to this site as this is my first post. I have however read through a good number of the posts in the areas that interest me, and from here it looks like this site has a good number of people with a wealth of knowledge. Some perhaps beyond just the borderline fanatic?? Myself included probably. That being said, here is my question:
I have come to the point in my hobby that I would like to attempt to make a "historically accurate" sword on my own. In doing some research, I have found plenty of information on blade length, width, profile taper, but very little on distal taper and fullers. My goal is to create a close approximation of a blade in the type XII-XIV style. Mainly built and balanced to be a strong cutting blade, while hopefully maintaining agility, point control, and thrusting capabilities. In looking at blades, I would say close to the geometry of Albion's Solingen blade. So that brings me back to distal taper and fullers. Is there any reference material out there, short of me having to buy the sword or spend a weekend in Europe, that would give me measurements for fuller depth/radius and blade thickness measurements over its length? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Aaron Schneiker
