is engraved . "The Pettibone bros MFC co Cincinnati" and CM RINGO.
Would like to know when was done, why the religious symbols and if may have any value for the collectors

Hi Daniel,

I don't know to much about these but it's a sword from one of the fraternal organizations like The Knights
of Columbus of The Freemasons ect. The red cross wrapped in a blue banner is familiar but I can't place it .
This seems to be a very nice example . I know there are folks out there who collect nothing but these .

It's a Masonic Knights Templar sword.

A nice looking specimen there ... in much nicer condition than a similar sword that I own. I would have to say that it's a sword from the Knight's Templar (my guess being based on the Knights Templar Texas chapter sword that I have which bears the many of the same exact emblems). :)

Wow. That answers the question of what kind of sword I have; I have a similar unidentified replica sword, although mine is absolutely ravaged with an impressive amount of rust. Yours is certainly in nicer condition, and thanks for inadvertently tipping me off to my sword's identity.

I was going to shoot off my mouth and say that it screamed Masonic to me...

...but it appears that I'm in complete agreement with everyone else here. ;)

I've guessing that the red cross is related to the Rosicrucians, who I've heard about obliquely but have next-to-know direct knowledge of, and that the other parts are related to various pieces of Masonic lore, which is intimately tied in with the Knights Templar. So is the Rosicrucian thing, for that matter.

I'd lean more towards Knights of Columbus, personally. I have a friend whose grandfather was a member and left the sword to him when he died. Yours looks identical to his. However, they all might use the same basic design with minor differences to distinguish one order's blades from another's. I'm guessing about that last part, though. If anyone in here is a member, that might shed more light.

Sorry, I know of no one who collects these.
