Is there anyone who has a clue about the construction of the marto celtic sword see picture.
Because I do own   :\ such a sword (I know I know, but one has to start somewhere......)
And actually don't find the hilt (see picture) not that bad...
Offcourse the blade is (to) far off and therefore I was thinking of "reblading" it...
Now I would like to know what to expect when trying to part the hilt from the blade...
Would the "tang" go halfway thrue the hilt??? And is it (as i aspect) glued somehow into the hilt?
Folkert.

If the word Marto wouldn't be enough I also dare to show a picture of it....  :p
I asked a Marto owner about it but it may take a few days for him to answer. I'll get back t you when he does.
Embarrassed? I own a Viking Push Dagger

Supposedly some Marto's are of a reasonably sturdy construction, i.e. full tang, usually with a screwed-on pommel. Some however seem to hae a glued push tang. My source didn't recognize your sword so I'm afraid you'll just have to take it apart and see for yourself.

Most likely the hilt is made of zinc, ie. "pot metal", as is every other Marto sword I've ever seen. As such it isn't worth messing with.
