Celtic music opinions
Hello,

I was rewatching Rob Roy the other day and I realized that I really loved the fiddle music when Cunningham is chasing that bearded guy (I forget his name, the one carrying the 1000 pounds) through the woods. Now I don't know anything about this kind of music but I think it's called Celtic fiddle? Can an aficionado point out some good musicians in this style?

Thanks,
Jeff Hsieh
That would be Eric Stoltz (the guy with the beard).
Celtic Music Opinions
Hello. I think the fiddler in question is Alasdair Fraser who has many cd's out in a variety of styles. I'm sure you'll be pleased with any of his traditional recordings. My wife says that it might be William Jackson on the soundtrack.
Hope this helps,W.
The soundtrack
I have the soundtrack to "Rob Roy". On the front it says music by Carter Burwell. Most of the traditional pieces ( like the reels, where Eric Stoltz is being chased by Tim Roth) are by a Scottish band called Capercaillie. Karen Matheson, Capercailie's lead singer, also sings vocals on other tracks in the movie. She has one of the most beautiful voices on the planet. I have a couple of other CDs by Capercailie as well. If you like the fiddling, see if you can find their CDs "Crosswinds" which has a lot of traditional pieces, and "Secret People" which is sort of half traditional and half modern. You can probably find them on Amazon.
Thanks guys, I will go check those names out.
