I've been interested in the Bruce sword by Macallen armourers. The weight is listed at seven pounds but I've read posts stating the actual weight being over eight pounds. I tought that the boys at Macallen had exaggregated the weight to make it seem more heroic. Today I came across this http://home.gci.net/~airloom/swordof.htm. It contains documentation of the sword in question. Blade thickness at base is to my eyes "3/8 and the width is 2,5 inches. The thickness tapers to "1/6 at the point. The fuller is also very short.

If Bruce actually wielded an eight pound monster he had to be quite a brawny guy. Couldn't this sword be improved by a deep, long fuller and a thinner blade? I tought wide bladed cutting swords should have thinner blades. The distal taper doesn't really begin until twelwe inches down the blade.

It sure is one beefy blade but is it something a king would use, especially as he reportedly was a great swordsman.
