hello all. i have a question for all of you. please forgive my ignorance on this subject. i am attending an estate sale this Saturday. while scrolling through the items list i found some swords. there are no pictures, and whomever wrote the description was vague to say the least. listed we're a fighting sword about 5' in length, a "dagger" that is definitely a main gouge, and as they described it, an " ivory handled Spanish sword"? it's right by my home so it's not out of my way. i called the gentleman running the sale and he seemed to not know much about the swords other then they are very old, having been in his family a long time. if you all would, please tell me how to identify what type of swords I'm dealing with here. the only thing he knew for sure was that the blades on the dagger and the "fighting sword" said solingen on them. thanks to all of you for any help you can give me.
Hello Mike,
Unfortunately, without photos, we can't help much. And the inscription "Solingen" has been used on blades from the 1600s right up until recent times, so that's no help either.
