Best off the shelf Greek swords?
What do folks here think of the ones made by Al hammd? (Better than Deepeeka?)

Thank you,
John
Hi John,

as far as I know, the only copies of ancient Greek swords which are made in batches and based on reading actual books are the Matthew Amt xiphos and kopis from Deepeeka. A firm in Italy seems to have copied theirs, and now Deepeeka copies some details of their copy. I reviewed the Deepeeka kopis here https://www.bookandsword.com/2026/07/04/an-indian-kopis-from-deepeeka/

Several cutlers will grind you a good copy of an ancient sword if you ask, but make sure they have actually studied the archaeological reports and preferably examined originals. Otherwise you get Greek swords with solid steel pommels because medieval swords were built like that.

You can't tell whether it is a sword (with distal taper) or a sword-like object from photos, and weights online are often incorrect or include sword and sheath together.
