Hi!
How do people securely trade on this forum? For instance, if I wanted to sell a sword and a potential buyer expressed interest in buying it, how is this done here?
I would assume the person would give me the address they wanted the item shipped to, but how do people pay? Is this an honor system or is there a secure way for both parties to make the transaction?
Thanks.
Christopher,
The forum provides a way for buyers and sellers to meet virtually and communicate via PM. The details beyond that are up to the parties to work out. Many people these days use PayPal or something similar to transfer funds, but that’s not universal. Back in the forum’s early days people would mail postal money orders to the seller who would then ship the item. I don’t think many people still do that. :)
I’ve sold a number of things here and PayPal tends to work well. I’ve seen sellers note that PayPal transactions should use the Friend and Family method so no fees are taken out. However, you lose much of PayPal’s fraud protections and may violate their terms of service if you use “friends and family” to pay for an item.
Ultimately it’s up to the parties involved to work it out. As a site, we don’t get involved in that part. Caveat emptor and all that. :)
