Being a dedicated medievalist, I have been struggling to identify this particular sabre in a small collection recently inherited.

From the general shape of the blade, semi blued and gilded decorations and guard shape, I suspect it might be 1820's-1850's. Other than that I have no access to catalogues of this period. Perhaps some kind soul would recognize it or suggest where I may find more information?

Imo, Solingen made and closer to 1800. The sword knot added at some point and the general form, that of the Bavarian 1788 Rumford hilted cavalry swords but this belonging to an officer. Possibly made during the period when Napoleon and the first empire ruled. I would place my bet on those thoughts but others may have better resources and knowledge than I. The lion not specific to Bavaria but when you add the hilt generalities, that's my guess. A Bavarian cavalry officer's sword first decade (or a decade earlier) of the 19th century. The mark on the spine relating a forge in Solingen. There may be other marks (such as a K&S) you can find on the blade.
